That’s the vinyl cutting drawing. I did the word “lock” in a subtle way.

There are some problems with the lock that makes it not so practical. For example, there’s a lot of friction at the dowel. The wood chip that serves as a string can be wore out and easily broken if used too many times or turn too far. If there were another chance, I would try to design a more complicated, smaller, more practical and better using lock.

I spent a lot of time on drawing, just to make sure all the measurements are correct. When I’m actually making the clock, I did not have much problem with dimensions.

Challenges I faced:

I had a hard time making the key. It was hard to work with round object.

Hot glue had its disadvantage. It adds to the friction and makes the surface less smooth.

It really got me thinking in making the wooden chip, which is an integral part of the lock. I first tried to use acrylic and realized it was too hard. I then tried to etch on a wooden piece. It work in making it thinner, but it was too fragile. I finally found the perfect material from the prototyping cart. There’s the ice-cream sticks. It worked perfectly.

When i just finished, you could hear the click when you press the shackle in. Then I left it for the night and somebody messed with it. It wasn’t working by the time I found it. I tried to take the front piece off, but it was completely stuck. Luckily, it started to work later. So that’s a lesson for me: do not leave your work unattended.
