I’m Samuel Alfredo Ramirez, most call me Sam. I’m an aspiring Electrical Engineer whose a sophmore at McMurtry. I am involved in Rice Electric Vehicle, Rice Smash Bros, and I hope to be more involved with some more engineering clubs like IEEE or the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
One thing that I’ve made that I’m proud of is last years entry to the Shell Ecomarathon, a car called REVolution as a part of REV. Although I didn’t make the entirety of the car, I was there to contribute on the electrical side of things, such as a testbed to simulate loads on the motor driver, the motor driver itself, little bits of wiring and finally I got to witness the first test of the car driving behind Ryon Lab. It was a great experience that taught me about teamwork, research, and how to develop as an electrical engineer.
I would like to make something similar to Wintergatan’s engineered musical instruments. I’ve been following them since they posted their first Marble Machine video and they have astounded me with the creation of the Marble Machine X. Similar to what I’m supposed to do with these blogposts, they made a video series that documents the inception, planning, development, and final result of their project. Although making a machine just like theirs would be impractical in terms of time, money, and expertise, it would be exciting for me to make something similar using the skills I garner during ENGI 210.
I hope to learn more about the CAD modelling and using the 3D printers. I took a course back in high school that made use of CAD modelling software but it wasn’t for anything substantial. I would like to learn how to make my own models and implement them into my own works, either as prototypes or as a piece of my final build. 3D printing would make life so much easier.
