This is Haley’s first blog post

I am a master’s student in Bioengineering in the Global Medical Innovation program at Rice. In addition to classes, I am a design mentor for the senior bioengineering capstone projects. Outside of class, I am an intern at a local startup — Brevitest — which has developed a point-of-care diagnostic device that gives results in less than 15 minutes and with a single fingerstick of blood. Right now, we are selling antibody tests for COVID-19. I graduated from the University of Rochester in May 2021 with my degree in Biomedical Engineering and minors in Spanish and Mechanical Engineering. There I was an EMT and president of our alpine ski team. Skiing has always been a huge part of my life (since I was 2 years old) and it actually led me to my passion for prosthetic engineering through working with para-athletes starting in high school. You can check more out here through my scholarship submission to Taco Bell back in 2018. They’ve been supporting me all through undergrad and graduate school.

Other than that video, I’m really proud of my senior design project where I worked on a team to design a benchtop model for practicing total knee arthroplasty.

I would love to make some of my own furniture in the future. I love the woodworking medium and hope to maybe start my furniture journey with a coffee table.

I hope to get a more holistic understanding of how to make things in general. I’m especially excited for the CNC machines.
