Howdy y’all! I’m Alex.

Hello everyone!

This is my self-introduction to mark the beginning of ENGI 210/BIOE 555 Fall 2024. My name is Alexandra “Alex” McLennan, and I am graduate student in the Rice MBE-GMI program. Prior to matriculation, I have been pursing my medical studies down the road as a medical student at Baylor College of Medicine. One thing I was able to make, develop, and patent during this time was a metal-free tissue expander to be used in reconstructive surgeries. This semester, I would love to learn more about metalworking and 3D printing, and perhaps make a new device to help me in my future Mohs procedures when measuring soft tissue flap and defect sizes.

I am so excited to meet all of my future colleagues and develop my engineering skills related to medical device prototyping and fabrication.
