Hey Y’all. My name is Mert and I am a sophomore in Mechanical Engineering. I am from Turkey and excited to meet with all of you. At Rice, I participated in several STEM related clubs such as Rice Robotics, Eclipse and AR/VR. I am the mechanical team lead of the AR/VR club and we are working on a project called NASA Suits. Currently, I want to pursue my career in medical robotics, but I am also interested to automotive technologies and rocketry. During the senior year of my high school, me and my two friends built a radio telescope for visually-impaired students, so that they can explore the universe with sounds. Previous year, I took ENGI 120 class which we worked with Rice Wind Club to build a pitch-control mechanism for wind turbine blades and I want to develop my engineering design skills as well as learning the prototyping and fabrication by taking ENGI 210. Probably not in the near future but one day during my college life, I want to build a mechanism which can iron, fold and dry my clothes in the same place. I hope to utilize the advanced machinery techniques that I will learn such as laser cutting and using power tools to build prototypes and eventually making products.
