Hello! I’m Sophia. I’m a mechanical engineering major in my sophomore year. I’m from Reno, Nevada. I wasn’t particularly engaged in many engineering programs last year, but I hope for that to change this year. I am super excited to take EDES 210 because from the moment I heard about the OEDK I’ve made it my goal to learn as much as I can about every machine in there. Previously, I took ENGI 120, and got to experience using the 3D printers, sewing machine, laser cutter, and several power tools. A cool project that I’ve made is a 3D printer enclosure. Using IKEA tables, 3D printed brackets, and plexiglass, I built a temperature-controlling cage for my prints. This semester, I am looking forward to using the OEDK to make a wooden crate. As well as learning how to use all the tools in the OEDK, I also want to learn how to better manage deadlines and manage my project efficiently. I am committed to planning, so that I am not stuck rushing to meet deadlines or finishing projects at the last minute.
In my free time, I love to read and go places in nature. This summer, I went on several hikes, including a backpacking trip on Catalina Island! Some of my other hobbies include: oil painting, cooking, and designing assemblies in CAD.
