The First Handmade Apron Sewing by Allen

PART I

I have seen my mother using the sewing machine. In the beginning, I assumed it might be an easy task. However, as I started to do it by myself, I knew I was wrong. Thanks to my patnert, Joe, and my classmate, Lee, who taught me how to use the sewing machine and assisted me to trouble troubleshooting. Especially, TAs provided some tips to me when I tried to sew multiple layers of fabric together.

PART II

  • I tried to make an “X” shape on my apron. After getting tips from the TA, it was getting better.

  • Here is my first handmade apron with pockets.
For the strip design, I decided to use the “X” shape.
So, I do not need to tighten the strip every time when I use it.
The design not only gives my apron having different style but also makes it more convenient for using.

PART III

Cost estimates:

  • Fabric: $10.00
  • Thread: $5.00
  • Labor: $91.00 (13.00/hr * 7 hours, including draft design)

Total: $ 106.00

The price of fabric is checked from Fabric Wholesale Direct.
The thread price is checked from Amazon.
The average salary of sewing labor is checked from Indeed.

The price will decrease after the prototype is made. Since I am getting familiar with the sewing machine, and I do not need to design the apron again, the labor cost will decrease significantly. The price of my second apron might be decreased to $40 each. (decreasing 50%)
