Modeling and Casting – Cameron

Hello everyone!

For this project, I used 125 mL of water and around 33 grams of alginate to mold and cast my index finger. The alginate and water mixture were stirred for several minutes to remove any clumps before I placed my index finger inside. I let my finger stay inside the mixture into it cured into a firm mold which took about 9 to 10 minutes.

After removing my finger from the mold, I make a 2:1 ratioed plaster by volume with water. Once mixed, I pour the plaster into mold and insert a screw about an inch deep into the poured plaster. After waiting a day, for the plaster to harden, I come back to the OEDK and remove the plaster cast from its mold.

Once completely removed from the mold, I feel that the cast is still a little moist. Worried that it was still to brittle, I let the fingers dry for another day. After waiting, I then look over the fingers to see if there is anything to sand off, but luckily there wasn’t any. I then take the fingers outside to have them spray painted where I let them dry for several hours, leading to the completed product!
