Hello everyone!
This is my blog post for the molding and casting homework. I had to re-do my fingers three times before getting a successful result. The first time I did it during the class time but I guess the plaster of paris mix was not a 2:1 ratio but rather a 1:1 ratio because when I came back to the OEDK hours later a liquid layer had created on top of my finger mold, thus my screw was never fixed in place. The second time I tried to make sure the plaster mix was more thick and it actually worked, but this time my finger was really ugly and deformed, so I also discarded that one, also because the screw was not properly placed and you could see it coming out of my finger base, as shown in the figure below.
The third time I was able to get a good result for both of my fingers, as I used extra tape to hold in place my screw and I made sure the plaster to water ratio was also correct. Somehow I got one finger to be shorter than the other, but I believe it was due to the fact I used a small beaker for the longer finger and the taller beaker for the shortest finger. The two fingers are shown in the figure below.
After doing so, I took both my fingers outside and spray painted them with a green color. I then took a lighter green tone and spray painted the upper part of my finger to create an ‘ombre’ effect. Lastly, I applied a matte spray paint coat to both fingers. This is how my fingers turned out:
