This week in class we learned how to mold and cast our own fingers. The process was pretty straight forward: make a mold of the finger using alginate, prepare plaster to pour into the mold, pour the plaster and then let it set! Overall the process takes about a day to full complete but once it’s finished we’re left with a stunningly intricate replica of the desired object!
The final product needs some paint to look a tad nicer, so I decided to go with a golden finger to allude to the King Midas story. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any gold paint, so silver would have to suffice.
I primed the surface with grey primer before finishing the fingers with a layer of silver paint and clear coat.
Cost analysis:
Dap 10312 25 Lb. Plaster – $26.10 or ~$0.06 per ounce –> ~$0.36 for 6 ounces
Spray paint – $6 –>$0.04 per finger
Total Cost: ~$0.80 for the entire project
