Hi everyone, my name is Jolina Zhao! I am a sophomore from Jones college majoring in cognitive science and minoring in engineering design. I am super interested in going into UI/UX/Product design, but I also really like building stuff, hence, the engineering design minor. You might have seen my designs here and there, as I am a part of Rice Design and Rice Bikes. In addition, I have done some live music at rice too, including chamber and campanile. This aside, I’ve dabbled in consulting, big on finding random events to attend, and loves to find free food locations on campus.
One thing that I have made that I am proud of is my design portfolio website. Although it is in the works of being created into a fully functional website, the design for it is all done. This website contains every project (essentially) that I have worked on in the past and includes a detailed case study for each. It is a culmination of everything I have worked towards in the last two years, and it is super cool to see everything finally coming together!
One thing that I would like to make this semester, or possibly in the future, is a PC. I have always wanted to build a PC, but have not gotten the funds nor the time to do it. I had all of the parts for my dream PC picked out, so one day, I hope to be able to make that a reality.
One thing I hope to learn in EDES 210 is how to bring ideas in my mind to real life. Often times, I have ideas for things I want to create, whether that’d be a simple little figurine or something more complex like a large object with moving parts. I want to be able to know how to navigate different mediums to bring it to life. Not only do I think that is a very valuable skill to have, but I also think it would dull some of the frustration I have in not being able to bring ideas into reality currently.
