Hey Everyone! I am Sophie from Baker College. I am a first-year architecture student and I’m really looking forward to trying out some of the techniques and approaches I’ve been using in my architecture studio and seeing how they can work in this class. I’m also super excited to explore new materials and tools that I’ve never had the chance to use before, like the CNC machines and 3D printing. It’s such a great opportunity for me to learn about these technologies and think about how they could bring something fresh to my architecture projects. I love experimenting and pushing boundaries, so I’m hoping to take some risks and see what new ideas can come out of this experience. All the assignments in this class sound so fun, and I’m especially looking forward to having the freedom and agency to create anything I can imagine using these technologies, like 3D printing. I’m also excited to see how people interact with and respond to the work we create. Can’t wait to get started and see what we all come up with!
Here are some molds I made before; they are used to cast sculptures of mycelium, a biomaterial.
In the future, I want to continue my experiment with different materials and hopefully combine them with the skills and techniques that I will learn in this class, for example, using the 3D printer to make clay sculptures.
