I’m Michael Woldeab, a junior at Brown College studying mechanical engineering. From my previous two years at the school, I’ve been able to participate in a number of engineering clubs such as Rice Hyperloop, Rice Robotics Club, and Rice Electric Vehicles. This year, I’ll be working towards joining Rice Eclipse.
Something I’ve made, or helped to make, which I’m proud of would be an animatronic for a TSA (Technology Student Association) competition. It employed the use of pneumatics, servos, and an Ender Dragon plushie as can be seen below.
Something which I want to make this semester is a creative piece using laser cut gears and pieces such as the ones showcased at the OEDK. Going into Engi 120 as a freshman, those works were the main attraction and motivations for me to learn about all of the engineering tools at the design kitchen. To do so however, I need to learn how to not just use the tools such as laser cutters and 3D printers but how to apply my knowledge of how they function to create complex pieces which challenge me.
