Creating wooden Rick Sanchez

For the third project of the semester, we were tasked with using the Carvey CNC machine to cut whatever we wanted into a piece of wood. After looking for a file from the noun project website, I decided to go with Rick Sanchez.

After I downloaded the file, I edited the file in Adobe Illustrator to get rid of any hidden lines and to clean up the file, so that I could upload it into easel.

My cut was 1/8 in. deep. I asked for help from my fellow classmates to help me clamp down the wood. Since I started my project last minute, I only had 2 pieces of wood I could use. My first piece was okay but I wish I made it bigger and the details would’ve came out better around the eyes. My second piece was better since it was a little bit bigger, but I had a smaller piece of wood so it wasn’t as great as I thought it could be. In both pieces of wood, I wasn’t able to cut the square completely and so the square couldn’t be broken apart from the wood. If I had more time, I definitely would’ve started with a 1/16 in.  bit to cut the face and then changed it to a bigger bit like 1/8 in. or 1/4 in. so that it would be able to cut completely through.

(Right piece is 1st try left piece is 2nd try)

I spent about 2 hours to cut both pieces and only used two pieces of wood. So total amount of resources was 2 hours of time and $10 of wood.
