Hi everyone, my name is Kyler Van Grouw and I’m pursuing a Master’s in Bioengineering. I am also part of Rice’s track and field team where I will compete in discus and hammer.
One of my proudest achievements thus far has been being part of a team that designed, tested, and built two prototype disinfecting devices for use within the medical field to prevent the spread of bacterial diseases like MRSA.
My dream career is in prosthetics where I hope to revolutionize the field of prosthetics by developing new and improved prosthetics with the top priority being to enhance the quality of care for amputees.
One thing that I’m specifically excited to learn about is molding/casting because this is one of the techniques used in the production of prosthetics. Overall, I’m excited to learn about each of the technical skills taught in BIOE 555 because I think they are important to understand as a design engineer who doesn’t always get to be on the floor during the manufacturing or development process.
