Sometimes, what starts as a simple project turns into a whole adventure. When I started to make the apron, I thought it would be straightforward, but the process taught me that crafting anything from scratch takes time, effort, and a little bit of improvisation.
I spent a solid three hours one evening trying to figure out how to sew. I watched tutorials, read guides, and fumbled through countless attempts. Eventually, frustration got the better of me, and I abandoned the project to head off to class. The next day, I returned to try again, only to find out that the sewing machine was broken! Thankfully, I had already done all the measurements, so that wasn’t time wasted.
After some instruction and guidance, the next day I gave it another go. This time, everything fell into place, and in just two more hours, I finished the apron completely! Total time spent: four hours.
If I were to charge for my time at $15 per hour, the labor cost would be $60. Adding $20 for the fabric, the total cost of my apron would be around $80. While it may not be the most cost-effective project, the experience and satisfaction of finishing something with my own hands were definitely worth it!
