Hey guys! For this week’s assignment we created mold and casted our fingersĀ to use as a hanger.
During the class tutorial, I casted only one finger however I didn’t like how small it is, thus I decided to begin the process from the start and make two of my same finger again.
To start preparing the mold, first I measured the ingredients, then I mixed 125 g alginate to 33 g water using the big cup below. After string for like 3 min I poured the mixture into the small cup so it will easier to put and hold my finger inside. However, I guess I haven’t stirred it enough because mixture looked strange. I restarted to process and stirred it like 5 min. The problem this time was, I waited long enough that when I was pouring the mixture into the small cup, the mold already started to form before I put my finger inside. I stirred the mixture for 4 minutes for my third try and it worked well that time. I held my finger inside for 4 minutes then slowly removed it.
Mold was looking like this after I removed my finger:
Then I mixed the plaster with the water in 2:1 ratio and mixed it a little using the small cup. I poured it inside my mold and attached the screw.
After 45 minutes, I came back to remove the finger from the mold. It looked good so I prepared the plaster/water mixture again and repeated the process for the second finger.
After removing some excess plaster, I began spray painting the fingers with a metallic gray.
Cost Analysis:
Alginate: 11.99$ (1.5 pounds)
Plaster: 7.99$ (4 pounds)
Metallic Spray Paint: 6.48$
Screw (x2): 0.08×2 = 0.16$
Total: 26.62$
