Hi everyone! My name is Sahana and I am a graduate student, part of the Masters of Bioengineering – Global Medical Innovation program. I did my undergrad at Texas A&M (gig ’em aggies!) in Biomedical Engineering, and I have previously interned at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Stryker, and Alcon.
While at Texas A&M, I was part of an organization called BUILD that worked on transforming shipping containers into fully functioning medical clinics that were sent out to Ukraine and Nigeria to be placed in areas that did not have access to any healthcare service/center. While the purpose behind the org was healthcare focused, the work I did was much more construction adjacent. I got to learn how to put in flooring, insulation, false walls, install cabinets, and really be a part of building the interior of what would be later be used to help thousands of patients. I have a lot of pride in the work I was able to do with this org, and I learned that I really liked building and creating things with my hands.
One thing I want to make in the future is a moving vehicle of some sort and my own jewelry!
While in BIOE 555, I hope to learn how to be more creative with the tools in the OEDK, and just make. The last few years, a lot of the projects that I have been involved with have had lots of guidelines and contingencies that I was required to abide by. I’m so excited to create things with minimal restrictions and feel creative in this way after a very long time.
