Introducing Taofeekat

Hey everyone, my name is Taofeekat Lamina (Taow-fee-cah Lah-mee-nuh)! I am a sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering/Cognitive Sciences from the sweetest residential college (Brown, of course 😋)! I am so excited to take this class as I am pursuing an Engineering Design minor with an interest in working in industrial and digital equitable design.

Some information about me: I am the Publicity Manager for RASA and RBWA’s Retreat Coordinator. I am involved in many event-planning positions because I enjoy throwing fun events that other people can enjoy. I am also working with Rice Design on a consulting case and RAADE on a project to preserve Nigerian indigenous languages. I have an immense interest in user-centered design and prioritizing the input of those actually using a product, so I hope to engage in more projects that allow me to do so.

One thing I’ve made that I am proud of is a wellness app that targeted communities of color and health in those spaces for a pitch competition. I really enjoyed the project because our design was very aesthetically pleasing, and it addressed an important issue. I was primarily responsible for the digital mockup and prototype, which helped me find my footing in what I hope to pursue in the future. One thing I would love to do is design something that addresses a major social issue. I don’t necessarily know what that is right now, but I would love to create designs that help people and address an issue they are facing.

In EDES 210, I want to learn how I can use the tools at my disposal to create meaningful designs and projects.
