Rice’s Most Confused Engineer- Kyle Li

Hello, you beautiful person reading this blog post! I’m Kyle Li, a freshman at McMurtry College majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

At Rice, I’m involved with the Titan II subteam of Rice Eclipse (we still have not had a successful hotfire due to three separate reasons), the R&D subteam of Rice Robotics (I’d like to help out a lot more this semester), and Rice Lions (surprise, it’s not engineering related).

In terms of something I’m proud of making, my friend was slightly obsessed with Aventurine from Honkai Star Rail. As a gift, I CADed his token using OnShape.

In the far future, I’d like to make a cheaper alternative to high-end prosthetic devices; I believe that such a piece of technology that can restore a limb’s functionality should not be restricted to the elite. As for the present, however, I want to make interesting gizmos for my friends. After all, my eighteen years of life have given me so much inspiration, but I don’t have the skills to realize my dreams. Not yet.

In EDES 210, I’d like to learn how to correctly use the machines in the machine shop, as I have a non-negligible fear that I’ll get badly injured. Still, I’m looking forward to learning how to use the other machines correctly. Let’s start!
