so this was my original plan.
the rounded pieces are the front and back of the audio console
the hinge lays over the top
the rectangular pieces snap into the sides of the rounded ones
they also were to join with the hinge on either side
here’s problem #1
because the top of the front is rounded, the teeth dont completely mesh together
this could be solved by omitting the top segment
here’s problem #2
somehow i didn’t notice that that prototyping library joiner has a couple different shaped teeth
these dont fit together
these do
these do
not the ones i want though
an easy fix to this would be to omit the joins altogether
like this, except 1 piece
the main concern i had was about how to measure the length of my paths in illustrator
there is no built-in function to do so, so i would need a plugin
unfortunately i cant install one on the oedk computers
i ended up just eyeballing the length of the hinge part
im allowed some leeway because the hinge stretches, but there was no way to be sure
interestingly enough, when i cut the pieces, they were the sizes that i needed
regardless, i was expecting this plan not to work so i designed a simpler solution
so i cut out a bunch of these and stacked them up
it achieves the same form and function, but requires way more material
adhesive can be used to hold the layers together
rods can be inserted through the holes to make sure they stay aligned
i might try to revise the first design and cut it again
