Updated (10/17)
Upon taking an extra day to get more of my cuts out, I made progress on the model, the box took 1hr 20 min to cut alone. There are several pieces that go along with this model box, some which I have cut, and others which I will cut when I have the resources.
Dr.Wettergreen was very busy all day today, and said that the two of us submitting late would have to wait until Monday to vinyl cut. These were my files
These are the files that are implemented in the model (both cut and non-cut)
red- BandSaw to be cut from metal when Plasma cutter is available
orange- Lathes to be cut from metal when Plasma cutter is available
yellow- Mills/DrillPress to be cut from metal when Plasma cutter is available
green- Non-shelved tables, and a metal one to represent the plasma cutter
blue- Shelved tables
purple- Large conference room table
magenta- small conference room tables
cyan- Acrylic windows for offices, conference rooms, and machine shop
tan/photo- This is an interactive photo laser etch that can be done in EngraveLab.
I plan to etch each staff member’s profile photo onto a square and place them in their respective offices. I have photo lasers for all members, but not all are shown here.
I could say that I bit off more than I could chew in this project because, despite the simple level of complexity, the tediousness and intricate detailswith small pieces made the scope of the project a lot larger. I plan to finish the rest of this on my time for the OEDK to display.
(10/16)Original Post: Better late than never…
So approaching this project I sketched out my ideas for creating a press fit model for the OEDK floor.
Because I am fairly unfamiliar with AI and Solidworks, I attempted to create my own thin box as an insert base that the modeled members could be held on. The first box I cut would not work, because I did not know how to factor in the thickness of my material.
Dr. Wettergreen showed me a box making website that I used going forward.
This first box also showed me that my floor for the conference rooms would fall through, and that my acrylic may not fit.
Going forward from this point, I spent a lot of time trying to cut, but kept running into problems with the Boss Laser Cutter. I’d say that I fixed the cutter (with Danny’s assistance) three times in the past weekend, but I always ran out of time by the time I finished fixing it.
