Molding/Casting Homework

In this assignment we had to make a “perfect”copy of our middle finger, but we couldn’t make our entire hand and break the rest of the fingers, we had to figure out a way to cast only our ring finger, my idea is described in the steps below:

1. UseĀ alginate to create a female of my ring finger (that would be my entire hand, but I had only to make sure my ring finger was there, and I didn’t paid much attention on the rest of the my fingers).

2. Put barriers and pour plaster only in my ring finger.

3. Take the alginate and check if that worked.

And I was surprised with the results, I have a small scar in my left ring finger and even that was well reproduced.

In the pictures below you can see how well some other details were reproduced, but also you can see an error, there are no fingerprints. I believe that happened because of gravity, since my finger was in a horizontal position, the weight of the plaster pushed it down and therefore my fingerprints weren’t reproduced, because there was no plaster touching the alginate in that specific area.
