Claire’s HW1: Sketching and Drawing

These are my sketches and drawings for assignment 1.

For the squeegee that dries and colors a horse, my sketches varied from a squeegee saddle, human held squeegee, walk-through squeegee, and a roller-joint all body squeegee. My final design, illustrated with detail in my drawing, is a walk-through squeegee that adjusts to the horses height and girth. Spray cans attached to the frame spray the dried horse with color.

For the pen that doubles as a lightsaver and toothpick, my designs were less varied in the sketching phase, even though I was experimental with the form of the device. My final design takes advantage of the long and slender form of a pen, and transforms a normal length pen into a much longer and more substantial lightsaber which can be contracted once again for writing. The cap has grips which helps it act as a handle, and the cap extension has a short point to be used as a toothpick.

For the chainsaw that helps pandas cut down bamboo and dominate the world, my biggest challenge was figuring out a way to help a non-dexterous animal hold a power tool. Many of my sketches involved straps to keep the device on the animal, and collection sacks for the bamboo. My final design has a strap enforced with an aluminium frame which also holds the bamboo. The chain saw can rotate around a fixed point for the hard-to-reach bamboo. Most importantly, the world domination feature focuses on domination through peacekeeping, which is why the device has angel wings and a halo.
