Documentation and thought process:
Device 1: Squeegee to be used by a horse that also changes horse’s coat color:
- I knew and had experience using a normal squeegee, for windows etc. but I knew it had to be usable by a horse
- no ability to grip a handle with hooves
- can’t reach all of their bodies anyways
- first thought was to make something the horse could walk through, similar to a car going through a car wash
- problems encountered with this approach: it would be difficult for the “car wash style” squeegee device to avoid horse’s eyes and also get the horse dry
- I suppose if there were a computerized continuously scanning system this could work
- drew sketches of individual squeegees in a tunnel followed by canisters of dye lining the tunnel
- changed squeegees to one continuous set of ridges in another sketch
- horses are easy to freak out though, so maybe a half tunnel would be better: so I drew similar solution, but left off half
- disadvantages: horse would have to go through it twice
- maybe the horse could itself use the squeegee if it was mounted to it’s face??
- sketched out muzzle-like straps that a squeegee and then a paint can could attach
- realized this probably wasn’t feasible for horse to operate
- also why would a horse want to dry itself off.. and then dye its own coat??
- last quick sketch involved a Dr. Seuss like device that would essentially be a robotic arm in place of a person who would complete the drying and dying procedure
- I went with this idea for the final drawing, incorporating a foot pedal for the horse to be able to operate, special horse goggles as a safety precaution, and a system of scanners which would feed into a computer programmed specially
Device 2: Pen to be used by a human that is both a lightsaber and toothpick
- first thought was that for safety reasons, lightsaber and toothpick should come out of different places in device
- normally there is a button to emit the lightsaber
- for first idea, sketched a normal lightsaber with a toothpick mounted on a spring-hinge that would release upon pressing a little button
- but- it looked nothing like a pen
- started out with a typical capped pen design
- clicking the pen downwards would release lightsaber while button on the side would eject toothpick which would be inside the cap and would be held by a clip, and then when the button was pressed down it would be forced out the top of the cap by a small spring
- thought that extra grip could be added for dueling
- different pen design with twist cap
- twisting would activate lightsaber
- clicking the pen would eject toothpick from place in pen where ink normally goes (spring mech.)
- problem so far though: pens are small, too small to be adequate grip for dueling
- next pen would be fatter and longer with a heavy duty grip
- next pen was designed to look like a sharpie since those come in crazy sizes and could therefore be carried without suspicion
- this I also turnd into a detailed drawing
- cap pops off and houses several toothpicks which could be refilled (sanitary reasons)
- clicking cap would release lightsaber powered by force
- sharpie lettering would also be specialized grip material
Device 3: panda chainsaw for bamboo and world domination
- started with normal, basic chainsaw for human use
- realized pandas are BIG, so I made the whole thing larger
- realized that a pull start might be hard for a panda to use
- next sketch was drawn with a start key instead of a manual pull start
- thought that it should also have a larger handle so the panda could have more to hold with it’s limited hand dexterity
- next sketch, I tried using an even larger motor and new panda-sized throttle in addition
- these all required panda to use their hands, what if we could somehow mount the chainsaw to panda’s head?
- sketched helmet and straps to mount smaller chainsaw to helmet (complete with ear holes)
- problem with this thought was the panda would have no way to put the device on
- perhaps smaller dual chainsaws?
- maybe this could free up hands for walking as well as chainsawing
- this was the idea for the final drawing which mounted the small chainsaws (rocket launcher optional) onto boxing gloves
- this way, panda could dominate world or eat, use one glove or two, and still be able to walk (presumably)
