Drawing and Taking Stuff Apart

September 2, 2015

For our first assignment, we had to create sketches and then detailed drawings. The random combination of words really made me have to think our of the box. On some levels, some of the drawings that I had to create could not really be represented in terms of just a sketch. This is because I found it difficult to depict material in terms of just a drawing. Processes and macroscopic ideas are easier to realize on paper in terms of a drawing because an outside observer will be able to understand what is going on. On a positive note, I did not realize how easy some of the ideas came to me and I was happy of how thinking in terms of perspective really shaped my drawings.

The in-class assignment of taking a computer monitor apart was fascinating because it made me realize just how many working pieces went into making something that looks so mundane. This exercise also gave me a better understanding of how screen displays worked beneath the surface. Overall, it was a productive week and I’m excited for what’s to come.
