Hi guys I just wanted to send a quick update about my status on the mid-term project! The first day that I spent laser cutting I accidentally set my cardboard prototype on fire because I had the laser power setting too high. After putting out the fire and adjusting the power and speed settings I successfully cut out a scale version of the gear and about 20 chain links. I used this gear and chain links to see if I had the dimensions correct and whether or not I could use the dowels we already had at the OEDK for the pin between chain links. Turns out I did have the size for parts correct and I moved on to a higher fidelity version of them and laser cut them from 3-ply wood. I am currently cutting the dowel into pins for the chain links and using a drill press to put holes in these pins for even smaller pins. Attached are some pictures to clarify what I am talking about. Next I will move on to cutting the base and stand pieces so that I can start putting the whole thing together. I am hoping to stain some of the pieces and create a color scale instead of having them all be same color. I’ll post more updates as they come!
