A Way for Firefighters to Dispose of Nuclear Waste in the Sky

For this assignment I rolled, was tasked with creating a way for firefighters to dispose of nuclear waste in the cloud. This assignment perplexed a lot since from an engineering perspective, a solution that was realistic is not feasible. Therefore, I turned to science fiction for inspiration, namely Star Wars. What came to mind instantly was the Death Star which I sketched as my idea number 1. It had enough capacity to hold the nuclear waste and perhaps could be cooled by firefighters using water hoses.

I also tried to create a more subtle solution in my second sketch. A looming Death Star would not draw a lot of public support and would cause fear, anxiety, and controversy. I turned to a solution where a liquid propelled box would be hidden inside a cloud. This box would draw water from the cloud and then pump it downwards. If this contraption was deployed in a rainy area, people might not notice it.

For my third solution, I wanted something more thematic with firefighters. So I sketched a nuclear waste box on top of a fire truck. However, I realized that in order to incorporate more the fighting theme, I created a solution that was overall worse so I decided against it.

On the drawing phase I decided to expand on my first idea since I thought it was the best one. However, I incorporated ideas from my other solutions into these 2 drawings.

For my first drawing I drew my Death Star such that with one point perspective, the contraption would cover the moon. This gives some possibility of concealment since when people look up, they will see what would be normally the moon. The phases of the moon could further be simulated with reflecting light from a skyscraper or a fire station.

For my second drawing, I drew the interior of the Death Star. In it I had an inner storage compartment to store the nuclear waste as well as a cooling jacket. The source of cold water will be moisture from nearby clouds. Lastly I included some poles since they will be convenient for firefighters to use to move downward towards the center of the Death Star.
