Plasma Cutting

For this assignment we were tasked with cutting a US state out of a piece of metal.

When cutting out my state I ran into a few problems because of the intricacies of Maryland, particularly the Chesapeake Bay. When setting the tool path, if I followed the outline, it created small “islands” that it would cut out separately. Therefore I needed to manually remove these parts of the path.

Once cut out, I filed down the edges of the state. I did this to remove the slag from the underside and to round out the edges so that they weren’t as sharp.

Lastly, I spray-painted the state in order to give it a more finished look. Above is the final product.
