a. Who are you and what activities are you engaged in at Rice?
Hi, I’m Kelly Liang and I’m a sophomore MECHE from Jones College minoring in engineering design and biochemistry and cell biology. I spend way too much time in the OEDK working on personal projects and working for real (as a lab assistant). Besides being in the OEDK, you can usually finding me running circles around the outer loop at ungodly hours of the day (i.e. 6 am).
b. What is one thing that you have made that you are proud of?
I worked in a cell biology lab and my post-doc had an issue getting blood out of the blood bags so I designed this transfer device that attaches to a syringe on one end and punctures the bag with the other. He liked it so much, we are trying to get a patent for it. It was really cool to actually use my SolidWorks skills I learned in MECH 403 in a real project.
c.What is one thing that you want to make (this semester or in the future)?
I’m looking forward to the midterm project, where we have to use gears to make a complex machine assembly. Every semester I’ve been in the OEDK, I’ve seen some really amazing projects and I’ve always wanted to try my hand at it.
d. What is one thing that you hope to learn in ENGI 210?
I want to learn how to use the X-Carve and the Carvey to make some 3D molds.
