My name is Maddie Bowen, and I am a Junior at Baker College. I am currently pursuing a major in Sociology and a double minor in Engineering Design and Business at Rice University in Houston, TX. My interests include design, furniture, food, movies, and cities.
In my time at Rice, I have been involved with Design For America as both a team member and a team lead. Additionally, I also have been involved with the Moody Center for the Arts and Baker College. I am currently involved with the Kinder Institute for Urban Research as an assistant to the KHAS research.
One thing I have made that I am proud of is a tool to help budget shoppers navigate the grocery store. The design intends to motivate users to either eliminate impulse shopping or to impulse shop for healthier food.
This semester in ENGI 210, I hope to make a geometric wood sculpture.
I hope that my 2D prototyping skills improve in 210. Because I don’t anticipate always having access to the tools at the OEDK, I want to solidify my understanding of those skills that require nothing more than a computer.
