Hi y’all! My name is Vivian Xiao and I am a freshman at Sid planning on majoring in Computer Science and possibly Cognitive Science. At Rice, I am freshman representative of the Rice CS Club and an active member of Rice Skate.
One thing that I am very proud of making in collaboration with three other Owls is the HART (Hand and Arm Resistance Training) Device. It was a project we did for ENGI 120 to help a 10-year-old child with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita exercise.
One thing I really want to make in the near future is an “amusement park” for my cat. The house my cat lives in currently is quite small and old, and not the most interesting place he can stay at. I want to create a set of pieces that can be attached to the wall and provide my cat a space to climb up and down, rest, and play. In order for this to happen, I want to learn how to draw a 3D design with measurable units, different materials and their strengths/weaknesses, woodwork, laser cutting (for aesthetic purposes), sewing, etc. Below is an example of the idea.
