My name is Natalie and I am a sophomore at Hanszen, majoring in Civil Engineering and Studio Art. I am part of ASTR*, the art and design magazine on campus, and a CEVE team designing a Tiny House Community for a competition. Outside of academics, I like making and learning things, exploring Houston, and spending time with friends. I’m not exactly sure what I want to do career-wise, but I really enjoy design and fabrication, especially in the overlap of art, architecture and engineering.
Last semester, I made a 5′ x 5′ sculpture out of wood, plaster, and fabrics. I was proud of it because it was my first time working with wood at a larger scale and it seemed to confuse everyone who looked at it.
I have always wanted to make a clothing item using advanced fabrics or non-traditional materials.
I hope to improve my CAD skills, get more comfortable with the OEDK machines, and learn about different possibilities for jobs that involve fabrication.
