Hayden Webb: My Humorously Written Hello World

Howdy everyone hope you’re having a fantastic day :]

This is me!

My name is Hayden Webb and I’m a local Houstonian Texan! Additionally, I’m currently a Wiess sophomore who’s shooting to be a Mechanical Engineer with a minor in Engineering Design (Hence me being in this class in the first place!).

I’ve found myself engaging in Rice Robotics and an engineering design team here at the OEDK. For Rice Robotics, I worked for some time on the NASA-led cell storage project as well as the drone project. Moreso, the engineering design team I’ve joined has me doing material testing on carbon nanotube-resin mixtures that will be used in 3D Printed helmets.

One of the previous projects I worked on that I’m proud of was a dress I made for my gf!! It was engineered to her liking, made correctly, and actually fit her properly! It was a hard project as I hadn’t sewed in several years and it was my first major independent project, but being able to make it well and by myself has led me to having a large amount of pride in the project.

The things that I’d like to make would be the Spear of Longinus from Neon Genesis Evangelion or the robotic arms from Real Steel. For this semester, the spear seems like an interesting project personally as it encompasses a number of the skills we’ll learn this semester (3D Printing, Waterjet Cutting, etc). Moreso, this project will make me more proficient at these skills so that I can apply them in my helmet engineering design team. For the future, the Real Steel shadow-boxing arms seem like a fun project as, while the idea of arms that mirror my arms seems like a fun toy,  it can be applicable to be used medically for disadvantaged individuals to have a second set of arms to utilize.

I hope to learn in this class how to integrate different engineering skills into one project and the design skill behind being able to do so. Having the technical skill is a good starter for projects, but understanding how to integrate them together is key in most engineering design projects as I see it!

And for anyone who’s made it this far, ” Good morning, and in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night.”
