I am John Reko and I am a junior ELEC major at Rice University. I have been involved with IEEE, Rice electric vehicle, and the DREAM volunteer program. By doing the EDES minor, I have been involved in some really cool engineering projects. My ENGI 120 project was very interesting and involved me welding together a steel frame for a sensory relief room. This never got installed at the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences, but the experience was really great. I am proud of my work on my ENGI 200 project where I created a complicated electronics box that used an Arduino Mega to control many different relays and lights. Blacksmithing has always interested me and I even took a blacksmithing class when I was in high school. I always wanted to hand craft knives and other metal objects with a forge and anvil. In ENGI 210, I hope to learn how to use the 3D printers so I can manufacture boxes and components for larger electronic gadgets I make in the future.
