Hi! My name is Kaira Lujan. I am a member of the 2022-23 cohort for the Masters in Bioengineering – Global Medical Innovation. While I am very new to campus, I am hoping to spend a lot of time in the OEDK working on projects for my courses including this one!
I have had the opportunity to make lots of things throughout my engineering studies and hobbies but I am most proud of working on redesigning this prosthetic hand. I was able to work remotely with a team on improving the form and function of the prosthetic hand in use by the Ellen Meadows Prosthetic Hand Foundation. While the redesign is still in process, it has been extremely rewarding working on something that will hopefully make a big impact on users down the road.
My dad used to do a decent amount of woodworking and in the future I would like to make furniture for my house – maybe to start a dining room table and chairs.
I would really like to learn more about 3D printing in this course and am excited for the project where we create something that can only be done with a 3D printer.
