Hello! My name is Sophie Leibowitz. I am junior mechanical engineering major from Miami, Florida. At Rice, I participate in club women’s ultimate frisbee and the Rice Electric Vehicle team. One thing I have made that I am proud of is a wooden spice rack that I made for my apartment last semester. I purchased cheap wood from Home Depot and did all the cutting and fastening in the OEDK with the help of my roommates. I did not buy enough hinges, so the doors do not open and close properly, but the rest I am very happy with!
In ENGI 210, I look forward to building things that involve moving parts. The majority of building I have done up to this point has all been with relatively simple static objects, so I look forward to branching out and exploring how multiple parts work together and interact with each other. Generally, I hope this class makes me more confident in my ability to build something from a concept to a semi-finished product, no matter what the idea or project is!
