Casting Fingers

I began this project by making a mold of my right pointer and middle fingers using alginate. I was careful to remain still and wait patiently to ensure maximal detail in my final cast. I then casted the fingers out plaster of Paris. The first cast I made had too many air bubbles and was generally of poor quality due to the plaster being too thick so I made a second attempt which turned out much better. Because I was so pleased with the quality of my parts, I opted to finish them simply with just a layer of clear coat.

Cost Breakdown:

  • Plaster of Paris – $0.40 used
  • Alginate – $2.00 used
  • Clear Coat – $0.10 used
  • Time – 3 hours at $15/hr

total cost $47.5
