Madison’s Fingers

Plan

I wanted to make both finger hooks using one mold to save time and materials. I decided to use my middle finger and pointer finger because those two fingers are closest in length, so their molds would look the most similar.

Process

I began by mixing the alginate and water together in a 1:1 ratio. I then stirred to combine and inserted both my fingers into the substance. After about 5 minutes I pulled my fingers out of the mold. Next, I mixed plaster of Paris and water together in a 2:1 ratio. Once completely mixed I poured it into the mold. Then I stuck two screws partially into the plaster holding them up with a piece of cardboard. When the plaster solidified I de-mold the finger from the plaster. I then spraypainted and cured the two fingers.

The final product is shown below.

Reflection

This project was overall fun and easy. I liked mixing the alginate and watching it set. The final product turned out pretty cool. The details are amazing.
