Hello everyone! My name is Cristiana De Sousa, but you can just call me Cris or Cristi (I have no preference). I am a mechanical engineering major from Newark, New Jersey, and I am from Duncan College. My hobbies include drawing, playing video games, baking, crocheting, and watching a variety of sports such as Formula 1, soccer, and esports!
At Rice, I am a part of the Rice Physics Outreach Program (RicePOP), where I teach younger students the joys of physics at a variety of public events such as the Houston Museum of Natural Science! I am also a part of Rice Electric Vehicle (REV), where I work with others to create an electrically powered car to compete at the Shell Eco Marathon each year. Please join both clubs! 🙂 We are always glad to have new members!
One thing I have made that I am proud of is drawing a portrait of my mom! It was difficult as I never worked much with charcoal prior to creating it, but I am happy with how it came out.
One thing I would love to make this semester is the shell for the electric vehicle for the Shell Eco Marathon. In the future, I would love to work on battle bots!
In ENGI 210, I hope to learn how to use the CNC machine, as even though I’ve seen others utilize it at the OEDK and the Moody Center, I have never used it before! I also hope to learn additional techniques to create physics demos for RicePOP to showcase at events, such as creating a single and double pendulum to demonstrate Lissajous curves, and the chaos theory.
