Hello everyone, my name is Cosette and I am a graduate student from the Professional Science Master’s Program in Space Studies at Rice University. I have a B.S. in Mechatronics Engineering from Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher in Mexico. During my bachelor, I did internships in the biomedical and aerospace sectors. I was part of the company GSE Biomedical as a research intern and of Latécoère Aerospace as a program intern. This biomedical internship led me to be more involved in this sector and continue researching as a hobby. In 2022 I published my first biomedical research paper about Finite Element Analysis in the human spine and I am trying to publish another one focused on prosthetics. Right now I am involved in several aerospace projects and I am part of organizations such as AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics), SWE (Society of Women Engineers) and SEDS (Students for the Exploration and Development of Space) Education. Currently, I am part of the electrical/assembly team from the Owl Sat project, which is a satellite that Rice is planning to launch soon to space to measure EUV flux. Besides this project, one of the projects that I am really proud is to be have been part of a space mission. I designed a space project called “Úurich”. This is a complaint mechanism in collaboration with AEXA Aerospace and AEGIS Aerospace Inc. that was launched on March 14, 2023 to the International Space Station in the SpaceX Falcon 9 CRS-27 mission to be tested in the MISSE module for 6 months. One of the things that I want to do in the future is to be able to continue sharing what I do and that more girls enroll in STEM careers. I like to participate in conferences and tv shows about science and be able to talk to people of the amazing world of science and engineering. Finally, one of the things that I hope that I will learn in BIOE 555 is to learn how to use the OEDK machines such as the 3D Printer because I know that this type of skills will really help me in my future projects and professional life.
