Hi! it’s a great fun to have apron-making experience and make this as a gift for my husband.
I chose the strip pattern fabric as the material of the apron. Firstly I measured and cut the fabric in to 33 inch full size apron, which fits well on on husband. I marked the dimension with pencil on the fabric for cut and steamed all the folded edges.
No crafting journey is complete without its fair share of challenges. At the beginning, the stitching always can not be uniform because the fabric I chose is little hard and require higher tension. I had to take all the them off and did it again on the next day. Fortunately, sewing process looks great for some reasons. There were moments of frustration when seams didn’t align perfectly. However, these challenges were also valuable learning opportunities. Also, I sewed box stitch on each of strap connection to the apron for neck straps and waist straps and made a double stitch at the joint to make it sturdy.
I sew a small pocket (7”*6”) in the middle to make the strip of the pattern symmetric. The four corners of the pocket has a few thread residue because I did not fold enough edges for sewing and only care about avoiding bulky corner.
Finally, after hours of work, my apron was complete. It was a moment of sheer joy and accomplishment. The feeling of slipping it on and knowing that I had crafted it with my own hands was incredibly satisfying. It fit perfectly, and the cross-back design provided comfort and freedom of movement.
Cost calculation as follows:
Fabric: $11.39/yd for 1 yd = $11.39
Straps: $0.93/ft for 7 ft = $6.51
Thread: $.01/yd for 4 yd = $.04
Prototyping Labor: $38/hr for 1 hr = $38
Sewing Labor: $15/hr for 5 hours = $75
Total Cost = $130.94
