I CNC-ed a cat. I used two pieces of wood to cut them at two inches tall on the ply wood. Taping them onto the board wasn’t an issue for me, but the order was a bit of an issue. For my first cat, I cut the outline first and then moon. So when the moon was being cut, the piece would wiggle around because the outline was already cut. I fixed this for the second piece.
Next was sanding and staining. I sanded the bits to have a smoother edge, and followed it with a walnut stain and was done!

The wood was about $5 as I didn’t use much. I used the CNC machine for a total of 20 minutes, which maybe be $10. For the stain, $2 because I used very little. Which comes to a total of $17.
