Hey y’all,
I am Joe Chung, a student in the Master of Bioengineering (applied research track) program at Rice. I am originally from Taipei, Taiwan. I came across the Pacific Ocean for my undergrad studies in Mechanical Engineering at UMass Amherst.

All I will miss about my life back in New England is Skiing and Snowboarding. Def not the snowy weather but I am also not ready for the Houston heat and humidity.
I am super proud of the one thing I have made, which is a neural probe insertion robot, in my independent research project during my undergraduate studies. I investigated the damage caused by different insertion methods and found that rotational insertion caused less damage while penetrating the deepest without buckling. I am also proud of the sweat inside my garage and on my lawn using all kinds of power tools.

Super proud of the stripe on my lawn
I have experience in hands-on fabrication in woodworking, metalworking, and 3D modeling. I want to make something useful that I can use in my garage or lawn. I am excited about molding, CNC machining, and plasma cutting, where we get to work with metals.

I used to view myself as a dog-only person until I adopted two kittens this summer. This is my roommate’s dog, Clifford.

This is Poki, and he is trying to stop me from going to work in the lab during the summer.
