Making Impossible Objects Possible with 3D Printing

This week in ENGI 210 we explored the different forms of 3D printing and were tasked to print out 5 impossible objects. I chose this set of interlocking Trefoils completely mathematically generated from thingiverse:

I chose to experiment with FDM and SLA Forms of printing. The FDM process was easy enough, and completely smooth from beginning to end.

However, the SLA Printer gave me multiple issues. I printed with the FORM 3 printers 3 times! And only one print survived. I got explained to that it was probably due to chunks in the resin, and the fact that my print was composed of very small strands, causing them to break in the tank.

Failed Prints 🙁

After discarding of my failed SLA prints, I washed the part in the IPA bath and Cured it at 70C for 60 minutes. Then removed the supports and voila my 3D printed impossible objects!
