Molding and Casting Fingers

For this project, I chose the beginner-level assignment as I have minimal experience with casting and molding objects. In class, I created my first mold by combining 32g of alginate with 80ml of water, mixing until it reached a slurry-like consistency. Using a popsicle stick, I stirred the mixture quickly, then inserted my finger with a slight curl to form the mold. After approximately 5 minutes, the mold set, and I prepared a plaster mixture using a 2:1 ratio of plaster to water. I mixed it for about 2 minutes before pouring it into the mold. To turn the final product into a wall hook, I inserted the head of a screw into the plaster as it set.

After 2 hours, I pulled out the screw and had my molded finger piece. I repeated this process again for my second molded piece using my index finger (used my pinky for my first piece).

I then proceeded to spray-paint the twice with 2-hour periods in between each paint.
