Introducing Mustafa

Hi everyone! My name is Mustafa, and I’m a senior at McMurtry studying Biosciences with a minor in Neuroscience. I’m originally from Dallas, TX. In my free time, I enjoy gaming, sports, and playing piano. I’m involved in intramural sports (mainly soccer), as well as being treasurer of the Rice MSA and tech committee head at McMurtry.

In high school, I took a ceramics class, and my portfolio is one of the things I am most proud of. Specifically, I focused my senior work on developing crystalline glazes that grow different colored crystals during the kiln firing. I also created a replica LEGO mini-figure at 10X size (15″ tall!) for another project. I had the opportunity to exhibit my work in a few competitions and won some prizes!

I began freshman year as a Bioengineering major, but switched to Biosciences to focus on med school applications. However, I enjoy building things and wanted to take this class as a way to gain more proficiency in using tools and expressing my creativity. Specifically, I really want to learn 3D printing since I’ve never done it before. With these skills, I also hope to complete the aesthetics for a project I worked on in EDES 301 to create a replica lightsaber. Currently, the lightsaber is a breadboard, wires, and parts, so learning to 3D print and utilize the other tools in the OEDK will help me build a custom hilt to complete the project. I’m hoping that the skills I take away from this class will open more opportunities for me to build and express my creativity!
