Hi, I’m Camille!

Hello there!

My name is Camille Quarterman (like 25 cents and “man”). I am a freshman this year at Rice University and I’m from Atlanta, Georgia. I play varsity soccer here at Rice, and have always loved to create and do things with my hands in my free time. I am a visual arts major, and I love to draw, paint, crochet, sew; honestly you name it. I have always been enraptured by the idea of designing things. When I was a child and in middle school, I remember messing around with small little found objects like binder clips and rubber bands to make something new and interesting. As I’ve gotten older I’ve been able to become familiar with the more sophisticated aspects of design, and understand the design process. This includes what it means to experiment with new ideas, create and make mistakes, and to enjoy these parts of the process. I am so excited to be in this class and make with everyone, and I can’t wait to see what ideas everyone has in store!

Something that I’ve made recently that I’m super proud of is my first crocheted sweater! It’s not quite finished yet bet it’s super warm and comfortable and in lieu of the cold weather we have coming to Houston, I’d say I finished it right on time! (sorry if the picture quality isn’t great)

In the future I hope to create a custom figurine that I designed and 3D printed myself. I’ve been into 3D sculpting for a while and have been practicing virtual sculpture, so hopefully I can bring my very own figure to life during EDES210! I also hope to round out my designing skills and develop pratical knowledge (such as knowing how to operate the machines, understanding how an object’s purpose or method of use may affect the design process such as materials used and dimensions, etc.) so that I can one day put them to use in a professional setting.
