Kate’s Apron Project

I started my apron (and my first sewing project!) by taking my measurements and planning the layout.

Apron Plan

I cut and ironed my fabric and began hemming. The first day I tried sewing was extremely frustrating. I tried all of the sewing machines, and only the last one I tried ended up working. After finishing hemming half of my apron, the needle broke on the sewing machine. After doing some research on which needles were compatible with the sewing machine, I learned how to replace the needle. I later finished the hems and began working on my box stitching. I wish that I had practiced doing box stitches a few more times, because the box on my apron have the correct shape but are inconsistent sizes.

Completed Apron!

Overall, I loved learning how to sew an apron and creating a project I can use for the rest of the semester. Though working with and debugging the sewing machines was frustrating, I ultimately became better and better at figuring out what problems were occuring and how to fix them.

Cost Analysis:

1 yard of fabric: $8

Strap fabric: $4

6 hrs of work: $60

Total Price: $82

In the future, I would be able to complete this project more efficiently, lowering the costs.
