Alessa’s Box

First, Zekiye and I met and talked about our plan for the box! This was so that at our next meeting at the OEDK we could jump right into it. We had our wood pre-cut and our first action item was to check that the sizes were uniform, and replace any wood pieces we thought were not cut clean enough.

Afterwards we used the planar to make the wood uniform and sanded to make each piece smooth.

Now that we had the pieces we wanted to work with perfected, we moved on to the assembly. (Note: we purposefully decided to route midway through assembly so that we achieved the right look for our box)

Mid-way through the assembly we also created our handles! This was a big challenge as getting it to be even was harder than we thought.

We first assembled the three rectangular “layers,” using the corner clamps and two screws per corner! We then routed on all the outside edges and sanded all sides for each layer.

Afterwards we attached the floor to the lowest layer, allowing us to have an official base for the rest of our box. Furthermore we attached the four pillars of the box to the four corners of the base. Then we attached the other two layers to the pillars on the box, separating each layer using the rubber clamp covers.

Lastly we sanded it again and stained it using beezwax! Now it looks gorgeous!

Here are our clean spaces!
